Darwin FTW CONFIGURATOR

During the last years, more and more options have been added to the Darwin pedal series.
In order to make everything a bit more transparent, I have decided to update this section of the online shop and offer this "configurator". *Optional and additional parts are also here, please scroll to Additionals" at end of this page*

Note: Due to the longer waiting time (Darwin Availability List) it is possible to leave a 20% deposit when ordering your pedal. I'll ask for the remaining amount when the pedal is ready to be shipped.

If this is an option you'd prefer, please select "payment in advance" during checkout and leave a note "deposit via" and "paypal", "credit card" or "bank transfer". - I'll get back to you with all the details along with the purchase confirmation.

Select and the preferred option in each step to your cart, if you are considering some additional optionals, select and add them to your card as well in order to get an overview of your pedal configuration and proceed with the checkout.
Note: Custom Anodizing is not available anymore, sorry!

If you consider any additional parts such as additional footboard conversions, drive conversions, or an additional backpack or hardcase (note that the pedal already comes with one of those options), please check out the section "Darwin Adds" in the online shop AFTER you have finished your basic configuration.

If you have any questions or if you prefer to oder directly via email, feel free to contact me anytime.

Step 2: Footboard Type

IMPORTANT:  This "product" is part of the configurator and can only be purchased in combination with a Darwin drum pedal (Step 1). If you want to order footboards as an upgrade for your existing pedal, please scroll to "Additionals" in order to purchase parts independently.

Step 2:

Choose between Shortboard or Longboard. Both versions offer a durable black anodized surface to match the look of the pedal.

Shortboard:

The classic geometry. The foot board is expanded by a fixed heel part. The base plate is identical to the long board version.

Longboard:
Its length corresponds to the short board plus heel part. Due to the altered lever it runs light-footed and offers the opportunity to experiment.

Short- and Longboard share the same base plate, which makes it easy to swap them. The heel block is supported by solid ball bearings guarantee a stable and smooth performance.

Step 2.1: Footboard Colour

IMPORTANT:  This "product" is part of the configurator and can only be purchased in combination with a Darwin drum pedal (Step 1). If you want to order footboards as an upgrade for your existing pedal, please scroll to "Additionals" in order to purchase parts independently.

Step 2.1:

Choose the colour of your footboard. Both options are treated identically and offer a super durable, anodized surface.

The only true difference is the colour itself.

Silver:

The natural anodized footboard has a silver looking surface and offers a nice contrast to the solid black parts of pedal. It also let the pedal "stick out" a bit more on the kit.

Black:

The black footboard perfectly matches the rest of the pedal which is almost entirely assembled from black anodized parts. It also offers great visibility for laser engravings if you consider something like that.

Step 3: Drive System

IMPORTANT:  This "product" is part of the configurator and can only be purchased in combination with a Darwin drum pedal (Step 1). If you want to order parts as an upgrade for your existing pedal, please scroll to "Additionals" in order to purchase parts independently.

Step 3:
Choose between Strap Drive or Direct Drive
The Darwin is developed to offer a wide range customizable features, in order to fit a drummers very personal needs. Besides general adjustments, the FTW version can be switched between a StrapDrive and a DirectDrive setup within minutes. - If you want to get both, the additional drive is available as an option and can be selected later in this configurator.

Strap Drive:

The strap drive is the perfect alternative to conventional chain driven pedals. Due to modern materials, it offers more smoothness and less gyrating mass in comparison to a chain.

The belt was developed in collaboration with a German strap producer. It’s made of a thin mixture of nylon and kevlar and features a layer of neoprene on its support surface. The strap is smooth, high-tensile and absolutely wear-free and can be fixed at different positions on the foot board. Thus the height of the foot board can be optimized independent of the whole drive.

The geometry of the cam offers a defined tearing edge, which, if necessary, can be intensified or dampened by twisting the cam. By emphasizing the tearing edge, the beater is additionally speed up on the last part of its rotary motion.

Due to the belt drive you can’t just twist the cam, but you can also adjust it continuously from round to an eccentric pulley. In combination, both parameters offer many possibilities to alter the running characteristics to your personal preferences.

Direct Drive:

DirectDrive has developed a big fanbase and is a popular alternative to modern chain- or strap driven systems, with reason!

Set up as DirectDrive pedal, the Darwin uses the split cam to adjust the top leverage and cam-rotation. The former footboard height adjustment turns into a second way to change the drive's leverage with its very own characteristics. The length-adjustable DirectDrive link allows to set the preferred footboard hight independently from other parameters.

Experimenting with these adjustments is not only lots of fun, it also offers a world of possibilities.

Step 4:

Choose between the Dynamic Beater or the n+1 Beater

Dynamic Beater:

A construction from aluminium with an optimized geometry and interchangeable rear weights and surfaces.

- black anodized

- fits all pedals

- incl. preassembled extra weight (stainless steel, behind the beater surface)

- Incl. one surface disc (felt, wood, or plastic,.. )

n+1 Beater:

The n+1 Beater shares many similarities with the Dynamic Beater which has been proven to work great for various setups. Besides the optic, the main difference is the position of the locking screw that also allows to slide the beater head back and forward. Mainly to adjust the distance and to remain an ideal 90° beater shaft when the beater hits the drumhead. This setup option can be very beneficial when there's no hoop clamp adjustment offered on the pedal. The optional weight (pre-mounted) is hidden behind the beater surface and can be removed without any additional tools.  The n+1 beater is compatible with all optional beater discs.
